Nothing planned for today so I went for a morning walk. (Too hot to go out in the afternoon. )
Wound up at the local elementary school. The children followed me around everywhere I went.
The principal invited me onto the school grounds. There was a large dirt courtyard with classrooms on one side and a stage on the other side.
The children all gathered in the courtyard, stood at attention in columns and sang something, presumably their National Anthem.
After that, everyone received a glass of milk from an enormous pot. Guessing that is the way that their national health system ensures that the poorest kids get some protein. Everyone threw their empty metal cups into another large pot, presumably to be washed for tomorrow.
After that, most of the teachers and students went to their classrooms.
I chatted with some the teachers and students who stayed. No one here speaks much English. I don’t speak any Kannada, the local language. So, we chatted using Google Translate on my new cell phone.
Most of the conversations were repeats of the same questions. “What is your name?” “What county are you from?”
The superintendent arrived. He spoke English. I chatted with him for a few minutes then walked back to my hotel.
